Dealing With Excessive Sweating

Excessive sweating is a problem that many people across the world have to deal and live with, however it is not something that should make you feel alone or embarrassed, because it is treatable.

What is Excessive Sweating?

Excessive sweating is a chronic disorder that is able to affect any part of the body, and basically what takes place here is that a segment of the sympathetic nervous system is responsible for this presentation. It is a common disorder which affects an estimated 2-3% of Americans, and it is a problem which tends to start in late adolescence.

Excessive sweating can be very frustrating because it stains your clothes, ruins romances, and even can complicate business and professional matters. It can really take hold of your life, and you often feel helpless and as though there is nothing you can do about it, even when you have tried multiple forms of treatment.

It is important to realize that although neurologic, metabolic and other systemic diseases can certainly be causes of excessive sweating, the surprising fact is that most cases actually occur in people who are otherwise completely healthy. Heat and emotions may also be able to trigger this excessive form of sweating in some, but many people who suffer from this condition sweat nearly all the time, regardless of how cold the temperature in their environment may be.

Treatment

The most important thing to realize here is that there is help and treatment that you can get for your problem. There will be a systemic evaluation completed on you, and from this, followed by a judicious, stepwise approach to treatment, you will be able to achieve good results and an improved quality of life overall.

There are a number of different treatments that are used for this condition, including over the counter antiperspirants, which are usually tried first because they are readily available, and particular antiperspirants, those which contain aluminum chloride, are often more effective when other types have failed.

There is also the option of oral medications, which typically have to be prescribed to you by your doctor, and then of course there is the most serious form of treatment, which is surgery, and which of course will only be approved after you have dealt with the issue with your doctor and they have gave the go ahead.

Each person and case is different, and so what may work for one person may not work at all for you. This is why it is so important that you get into your doctor and get a proper diagnosis, so that they can identify your specific problem and get you the proper treatment that you need.
