Different Fly Fishing KnotsThe first knot is a knot that is used at the beginning of the reel. This knot is called the "backing to fly reel knot" and it is used for that specific purpose. It ties the backing line onto the reel making it secure. Another fly fishing knot is the "Albright knot." It is used for tying the backing to the fly line and secures it for easy transitions. Each of these knots are critical and if done incorrectly will probably ruin the whole day. More Fly Fishing Knots The next knot is the "loop to loop" knot. This knot ties the fly line to a braided leader and is a handy knot to know how to tie because it can be used for many applications outside of fishing. A different fly fishing knot is called the "nail knot." The nail knot is used for tying the fly line to a regular monofilament leader. It's easy to learn and easy to use. This is one of the most used knots. One fly fishing knot is used for tying a handmade leader together. The ability to know this knot can save the day when there is no leader left. It is the "barrel knot," or the "surgeons knot." These are different knots but they have the same impact on the home made leader. Surgeon knots are also good to keep another knot in place. It works off of friction and is really strong. One other fly fishing knot is the "clinch knot" or the "Duncan loop knot." These are the two most used knots and the two critical knots to tie. That's because these knots are used to tie the tippet to the actual fly or lure. If they fail there will be no fish and a lot of flies will be lost. There are other knots also in fly fishing but these are the most used. Learning how to tie these fly fishing knots will make the fishing a lot better while the person continues to gain confidence. To learn how to tie each not a person should get a knot tying book, ask an experienced fly fisherman or look on the internet for simple instructions. |
