Information on Herb PlantsGrowing Herbs If your goal is to grow herbs then there are a few tips you will want to take into consideration. For one herbs should always be given well drained soil and full sun, and you need to water them frequently in order to make sure that they get well established which usually only takes a few weeks. Once they are established you can water less frequently and regular pruning is also important. Buying Herbs If you are more interested in buying herb plants, for medicinal purposes for instance, then you want to know about the different herbs and what their primary uses are. St. John's Wort is one of the most commonly used herb plants, one that serves many purposes. It is most often used to treat depression, as well as mental disorders and nerve pain. Ginger is another of the most popular herb plants, and it too is useful for a variety of health conditions. It is an efficient medicine for treating headaches, upset stomachs, coughs, even menstrual cramps. Nausea and motion sickness are also often relieved with use of ginger and it acts directly on the stomach instead of the central nervous system which, as a result, does not induce drowsiness or dry mouth in the patient. Be Safe Many people assume that just because herbs are plants and are natural that they are safe to take as much of them as they want, as often as they want. This is actually completely untrue, and herbs are a form of medicine so you still need to be cautious and be responsible and take the proper dosage amount. Working with an herbalist is going to be the best idea here, especially if you have little to no education on herbs, as they will be able to work with you, educate you on the different herbs that are available and what they are used for, and help to customize an herbal medicine plan that is going to be most beneficial for you and your health. If you are taking any prescription medications then starting on herbal medicine can be dangerous so you will either have to stop taking your medication as instructed by a doctor, or work together with both your doctor and an herbalist in order to come up with a solution that allows you to take both safely. |
