High Blood Pressure And Pregnancy: What To Look Out For

High blood pressure and pregnancy is definitely not a good mix. Many doctors will warn their patients to keep a sharp look out for any signs of high blood pressure. Many women who have high blood pressure and pregnancy at the same time give birth to normal babies but some do have complications during gestation. Others may develop high blood pressure during pregnancy and this will also lead hazards for the mother and child.

The Effects of High Blood pressure and Pregnancy

The effects of high blood pressure and pregnancy can be in the kidneys and the other organs. High blood pressure and pregnancy combined can also cause low birth weight in the baby and an early delivery date which can be serious in some cases. Preeclampsia can also develop in the mother, which is risky for both the child and the mother.

Preeclampsia is the result of high blood pressure and pregnancy. Typically it starts around the 20thweek of the pregnancy and is connected to the increase in blood pressure of the mother and the increase of protein in the urine of the woman bearing the child. Preeclampsia can affect the mother's placenta, brain, kidney and liver. This condition can prove fatal to the mother and child when the mother gets seizures. The child could also be born too early or have a low birth rate if the mother develops preeclampsia.

If you notice sensitivity to light or abdominal pain, you need to have your urine checked for an increase in proteins which signifies preeclampsia. Other signs are dizziness and blurred vision which are also symptoms of high blood pressure. If you already have high blood pressure and are pregnant, you will have to consult with you doctor regarding the prevention of preeclampsia. This is a serious matter and need immediate attention.

It is also good to avoid drinking alcohol and smoking while you are pregnant since these are some causes of high blood pressure. Regular pre natal care must also be observed since you need to constantly check your health and also that of your child. High blood pressure and pregnancy can be managed well as long as you keep to your doctor's advice and follow instructions. Always tell your doctor of any discomfort you might have felt or are feeling and be vigilant of any changes of your diet and lifestyle. High blood and pregnancy is a dangerous combination so be careful of your health and diet.
