Delicious Indian Vegetarian Recipes

Indian vegetarian recipes are incredibly popular around the world, and this is largely due to the fact that they are so unique. The flavors offered by Indian vegetarian recipes are truly unlike that of any other style of food, and if you have never experienced it for yourself before then you should definitely make sure that you do in the near future.

Indian Vegetarian Recipes

Although there are hundreds of different Indian vegetarian recipes that you could prepare, there are a few which are especially popular and which you may want to try out first.

Mango Chutney

For this particular recipe you will need 2 small mangos, 1 tablespoon roasted peanuts, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, 1 teaspoon coriander seeds, 1 teaspoon cumin seeds, 1 teaspoon salt, and 1 teaspoon hot red pepper powder sugar to taste. All you need to do to prepare this dish is heat the ingredients in a saucepan on medium heat until the seeds pop.

Rice Pilaf

This is another of the most popular Indian vegetarian recipes. First you want to melt 2-3 tablespoons butter in a saucepan, and then add the following whole spices: ¾ teaspoon cumin seed, 9 whole cloves, 8-9 whole black peppercorns, 5 whole cardamom seeds, 3 Indian bay leaves, and 3 inches cinnamon stick, broken.

Once you have mixed this in you want to add and sauté 3 medium onions under transparent. Next you add 1 ½ cup uncooked basmati or other long grain rice, 1 teaspoon salt, and 3 cups of water. You want to bring this mixture to a boil and then cover and simmer on low heat for about a half hour. Once the water has been absorbed and the rice is soft you can add a pinch of saffron, a pinch of turmeric, fresh coriander leave, and cooked peas for extra color and flavor.

One of the best features to these sorts of recipes is that you can really mix up the ingredients and make it your own dish. You can even add meats if you would like, while still keeping it delicious and nutritious. Just make sure that you keep the basic flavors the same or it may get a bit complicated and lose the authentic flavors.

A vegan diet can offer many health benefits but it is important that you have variety and mix it up every now and again. Eating the same vegan dishes over and over can grow tiring and will not be as advantageous to your health either.
