Buying Golf Clubs for Junior

Junior golf clubs used to be nothing more than an old set of full size clubs cut down to a smaller size. Many kids learned to play golf with clubs like these. They seemed to work fine at the time because nobody knew any better. Today clubs are made sized to the junior players. Some cost much less than full size clubs but there are now clubs made by the major manufacturers that cost similar to full size clubs. Deciding as a parent on which clubs to buy can be difficult and confusing. No one wants to spend hundreds of dollars on golf clubs that will sit in the back of the garage. However, if the child is playing a lot of golf and working hard to get better, the parent will want to invest in good clubs.

Length

When deciding on what junior golf clubs to purchase, there are a few things to first understand. The first thing to take into consideration when buying junior golf clubs is the length. Clubs need to be sized for each child but still be long enough for the child as he grows. Junior golf clubs can be sized too big and still be okay. There is nothing wrong with the child choking up on the clubs. As they grow, they will begin to choke less and eventually, they won't have to choke up on the clubs and they will fit perfectly.

After the junior golf clubs finally fit the child, they will be tall enough for a new set of full size clubs and the process can start again. In this way, the kids have good clubs all through their youth and when the junior golf clubs are out grown, they can use regular clubs with their parents.

Shaft Flex Level

Another thing to understand is the level of shaft flex. Full size clubs that are cut down have the thickest part of the shaft making them unable to flex. Junior golf clubs are made with the concept of regular clubs. The shafts are flexed for the slower head speed. This makes them feel right and lengthen drive distances.

Weight

The last thing to understand about junior golf clubs is the overall weight. Full size clubs that are cut down are heavier than clubs made for kids. The heavier weight of the club takes away from the back swing and club speed.
