What is Kayak Gear?

Kayaking is an amazing and fantastic sport, and regardless of whether you are experienced at it or whether you have never tried it before in your life, you will need to know what kayak gear is, and why you need it. The term kayak gear actually consists of several different items, and so if you are looking for kayak gear, then you should know that you will have to purchase a couple of different things.

What is Kayak Gear?

Kayak gear basically consists of a couple of the most important items that are involved with the sport of kayaking, and so these must be taken seriously into consideration. For example, this would include such things as paddles, helmets, and clothing; these are the most important items that need to be taken into consideration.

The paddle is one of the most important items by far, and there are several reasons as to why this is. Choosing a paddle is a process which must be taken into the utmost seriousness, and there are several things that you need to think of when you are trying to choose a paddle.

There are basically three considerations in particular that you need to think about, which are: the type of paddling you will be doing, whether it will be touring or whitewater, for instance; your height and body strength; the width and height of your kayak. If you remember to take these three things into consideration, then you are well on your way to selecting the best paddle for you.

Then there are factors about the paddle itself that you need to think about, such as: the blade length and shape, the shaft length and shape, and the materials that are used to construct the paddle. These are all incredibly important factors, because each shape has its own benefits; for instance, a wide blade with a larger surface face can provide greater acceleration, but it will also create more resistance in the water.

The matter of deciding whether you will be using the paddle for touring or whitewater is incredibly important because if you have a heavier paddle in whitewater for instance, it will be more difficult to use it and this can cause major problems. On the other hand, if you are touring, then you will not be going at a fast pace and so you would be okay with a wider paddle if you wished.
