Soon, all Nike running shoes will work with the iPod nano to bring a superior running experience to runners who wear Nike running shoes.

Nike + iPod

A couple years ago, Nike and Apple teamed up to create the Nike + iPod sport kit. The kit, which retails for about $20, comes with a sensor that fits into a cavity in the midsole of specially made Nike running shoes.

The shoe feels the same as any other Nike running shoe, but the sensor interacts with the runner's iPod nano, giving the runner a unique interactive experience. Nike recently announced that it plans to start building all of the shoes in its running shoe line with the Nike + iPod sensor cavity.

Special Athlete Coaches

Nike teamed up with athletes like Lance Armstrong and Paula Radcliffe to record special inspirational messages that Nike+ runners hear when they hit their goals, like reaching a personal best while running in their Nike running shoes. Runners can time their runs to a series of songs that pump them up; the program even features a "power song" of the user's choice.

Besides the "'atta boy" messages, the sport kit keeps track of the typical things runners like to measure: time, distance, pace, fastest speed, and that sort of thing. Runners like to keep track of all that data, so the Nike+ experience includes a wireless upload to the Nike+ running web site, where users can check their progress online and run reports.

The Sensor Doesn't Lie

The Nike+ running forums are a big part of the Nike running shoe experience. The sensor in the Nike running shoes doesn't lie, and users can't interfere with the upload of data to the Nike+ running site.

Unlike other running forums where users enter their own data and might tend to exaggerate the number of miles they log, all records posted on the Nike+ running forum are authentic. Even if you're running all alone in the middle of nowhere, the sensor in your Nike running shoes witnesses how far you ran, at what speeds, and for how long. When you get back to your computer, the sensor tells the world how hard you've been working.

Online Challenges

Online challenges have become one of the most popular features of the Nike+ running forums. Users challenge one another to run ten miles by Tuesday, or to log five miles a day for three weeks. This interactivity is what makes the Nike + Sport kit such a great addition to Nike running shoes.
