How to Reduce SweatingThe eccrine sweat glands are the most numerous types, and they are found all over the body, particularly on the palms of the hands, soles of the feet and on the forehead. The apocrine sweat glands, on the other hand, are mostly confined to the armpits and genital areas, and they are the ones which are most to blame for the smell that you may notice when you sweat, which is actually not your sweat, which is basically odorless, but rather the smell is produced when the sweat mixes with the bacteria on your skin. Sweating Problems Many people suffer from sweating problems, and they can be incredibly detrimental. Not only can they affect your professional life but your personal life as well, as you may even be too embarrassed to hold the hand of or lie close to the ones that you are closest to. This can obviously cause serious problems, and this is why learning how you can reduce sweating is so important. Learning How to Reduce Sweating One way to reduce sweating is to use an antiperspirant, which can be used on the hands and feet as well as the underarms. These work by blocking your sweat ducts with aluminum salts, thereby reducing the amount of perspiration that reaches your skin. However the downfall is that for many people these antiperspirants can cause irritation and even dermatitis, and they are actually the cosmetic product most associated with skin irritation. A more serious way to reduce sweating is to have an iontophoresis procedure done, which is a procedure in which a dermatologist uses a battery powered device to deliver a low current of electricity to the affected area. Although it is a painless and safe procedure, it may be no more effective than a simple topical antiperspirant. Surgery is another option of treatment to reduce sweating, although this is only used in rare cases, where no other forms of treatment seem to be working. If you only experience excess sweating in one area, such as your armpits, then the sweat glands will most likely be removed, and another procedure involves cutting the nerves that carry the messages from the sympathetic nerves to the sweat glands. You should never start yourself on any type of treatment before discussing it with your doctor, and so if and when you discover that you have a sweating problem you will want to get in to see your doctor as soon as possible. |
