Rowing machines are everywhere these days and there is good reason for it: the benefits that a rowing machine provides are fairly obvious as are the results of consistent training yields. For the uninitiated, however, there may be some questions regarding the various rowing machine benefits. These questions are not questions of doubt. They are, more accurately, questions of clarification. In other words, some may wonder exactly what will be the result of training on a rowing machine consistently.

Core Strength Conditioning

Of all the rowing machine benefits, the fact that a rowing machine can aid in seriously strengthening the core of the body (the upper body is primarily what the core muscles consist of) and this is where most of our functional strength lies. (Yes, the legs also provide a significant amount of functional strength, but considering the lifestyles people live these days the upper body is used significantly more than the lower) By placing resistance on the upper body to a great extent, a rowing machine can seriously increase the functional strength of the forearms, the shoulders and the chest. This enhanced strength then provides a more solid and stable body for performing daily tasks. Oh, and by the way, a rowing machine also aids in developing leg strength albeit not to the same degree that it affects the upper body. This "secondary strength", however, will be noticeable.



Calorie Burning

Movement burns calories and if you are using a rowing machine for extended periods of time, you will burn calories. Also, a rowing machine has the ability to increase (build) lean muscle mass and since lean muscle requires more calories to maintain its size, the body will use stored calories to feed the muscle. So, because of this reaction one of the best rowing machine benefits is the fact that it increases metabolism in order to provide the new muscle with the calories it needs.

Stress Reduction

This is one of the less emphasized rowing machine benefits, but it is an important benefit. By exercising regularly, one can greatly reduce stress and anxiety and this can make a person less depressed and on edge. Clearly, this is an underappreciated benefit and one of the most important of the rowing machine benefits. Sometimes mental health is more important than physical health.
