A Trip to Remember - Skiing in the Rocky MountainsWhy Go Skiing in the Rocky Mountains? There is much debate amongst skiers about the best places to ski. While they disagree about which mountains are best, most agree that there is a difference between skiing on the east coast and west coast. Because of weather conditions in the east, ski resorts on the east coast are far more susceptible to weather, and there is a wide variety of slope conditions. Skiing in the Rocky Mountains means you are treated to slope after slope of fresh powder. The weather is not as volatile, and the ski conditions are more predictable. Because of the large number of Rocky Mountain ski resorts, there is also a much wider variety of slopes, course, and resorts than on the east coast. In addition to ski slopes, there are opportunities for snowboarders and freestyle skiers as well. Planning a Rocky Mountain Skiing Trip - The Top Resorts There are ski resorts throughout the Rocky Mountains that would make any skier happy. Look at each of the top resorts and see which one best meets your needs. Each has its own feel, and caters to different types of skiers. Regardless of which one you choose, though, your Rocky Mountain skiing trip is bound to be a success. Aspen Snowmass Ski Resort in Aspen, Colorado is routinely ranked as one of the top ski resorts in the United States. While there are trails for skiers of all levels, it is known for it's wide trails, expert courses, and challenging terrain. Also in Colorado is Beaver Creek Ski Resort, one of the best resorts for families planning a Rocky Mountain skiing trip. It also offers courses for freestyle skiers and a half pipe. Finally, there is Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, boasting the highest chairlift in North America. The downtown area of Breckenridge is also a draw for many skiers. There are also top rated Rocky Mountain skiing resorts in Utah. Deer Valley Ski Resort was ranked the number one ski resort in North America in 2001 and 2005, and continues to be one of the best places to ski in the Rocky Mountains. Nearby is also Park City Mountain Resort, with 3,300 acres of skiing and snowboarding terrain. |
