Buying A Pair Of Snowboard Pants

When you watch snowboarding competitions on television, it seems like snowboarders have an "anything goes" attitude towards their clothing. They usually look very relaxed, like they are going to hang out at the mall rather than snowboard down a mountain in the Olympics. But snowboard pants are specially designed for the sport, and are an important part of your snowboarding gear.

What Makes Snowboard Pants Different?

Snowboard pants, while often fashionable, serve a definite purpose. They keep you warm, while at the same time protecting your legs from both the elements and bumps and scrapes. And, of course, they help you to look good on the slopes. Snowboard pants are generally made with a three-layer system. The first layer is the only one that actually touches your skin. This base layer acts much like long underwear. It both keeps you warm, and is made of a material to wick moisture away from your body. The second layer of snowboard pants is the insulating layer. It is designed to trap your body heat and use it to keep your body warm without overheating. It also serves the dual purpose of wicking additional moisture away from your skin. The final layer is the outermost layer, and the layer that comes in direct contact with the elements. It is both waterproof and windproof to hold up against the conditions of the snowboard slopes. Because this is the layer that comes in contact with the snow, it is generally made of an extremely durable fabric that will hold up to spills and debris. It's also the layer that people will see, so you can select pants with an outer layer that matches your personal style. In general, snowboard pants have all three layers built in to one so you do not have to put on three separate layers before hitting the slopes.

What Should I Look For When Purchasing Snowboard Pants?

When shopping for a pair of snowboard pants, you want to consider several things. First, you will want to think about what kind of snowboarding you will be doing. If you are going to be spending most of your time on the half-pipe, you will want to look for snowboard pants that will hold up to the falls and slides along the pipe. If you are going to be on the slopes, you will want pants that are waterproof, not just water resistant. You also need to consider fit. A good pair of snowboard pants should fit your waist, but also give you enough room to do tricks or jumps. At the same time, you want to make sure that your pants are not too big, or you may find yourself tripping over yourself as you snowboard! And of course, you want snowboard pants that match your personal style - choose pants that you like and you will enjoy wearing on the slopes.
