The Problem of Sweating While Sleeping

If you have a problem of sweating while sleeping, then you really need to understand it before you can find any proper form of treatment for it. You may be surprised at just how common sweating while sleeping actually is, and for the most part these cases are temporary, unlike many other sweating problems, and so you are able to get rid of them if you treat them properly.

Sweating While Sleeping

The cause of sweating while sleeping varies, depending on the age of the sufferer. If it is an infant, for instance, then odds are that they are sweating while they are sleeping simply because the temperature of the room is too hot. Children that young are not able to tell us when they are uncomfortable and too hot, and so often times we do not know until we see that they are sweating.

Another common reason is because they are sick, and so they may have a fever that is causing the sweating. Fevers in infants can be so dangerous that they can even be deadly, and so anytime your baby is sweating, whether at night or not, you want to make sure that you take their temperature so that you can check to see whether they have a fever or not.

With older children, particularly teenagers, they are obviously able to tell when they are too warm, and so this is not often the case for their sweating while sleeping. Instead, often times it is puberty which is to blame for night sweats, and this often starts around the age of twelve and ends around the age of eighteen, although this is not specific and can vary from child to child.

There is not really anything that you can do in this instance, although it is comforting to know that since puberty is only a phase the night sweats will eventually go away too.

In adults, night sweats often tend to be a sign of something much more serious, such as cancer for instance. Especially cancers of the blood, such as leukemia, tend to be shown by such symptoms as fevers and night sweats. They can also be a sign of menopause in women, however typically with menopause the sweating occurs in the day as well, and not just at night.

If you suffer from night sweats you want to try simple things such as keeping a fan by your bed or getting air conditioning installed first, and if these simpler methods do not work then you want to get in and see your doctor so that they can check to make sure that there is nothing more seriously wrong with you.
